Knowing Your Library Tan Sri Professor Ahmad Ibrahim Law Library
On 18 June 1999, the Law Library was named as Tan Sri Professor Ahmad Ibrahim Law Library (Perpustakaan Undang-Undang Tan Sri Profesor Ahmad Ibrahim) in appreciation of his contributions to the Faculty of Law and the Law Library University of Malaya.
Since its inception in 1959, the Main Library began acquiring legal materials and these were incorporated into the general collection together with texts of the other disciplines. However, with the setting up of the Faculty of Law in 1972, which happens to be the first law school in the country, the legal resources were shifted to the newly erected Law Library situated adjacent to the Law School.

The Law Library’s strong collection together with its varied services lends strong support to the University achieving its mission. The Law Library’s stock is currently the largest and the most comprehensive collection of legal resources in Malaysia. The collection comprising of both primary and secondary sources of law is divided and stacked into distinct groups such as the Malaysian Collection, Reference Collection, Statutes, Reporters, International Law Collection, Textbook Collection, Government Publications, Audio-Visual Collection, Reserve Collection and besides several others. These materials are housed on the four levels of the Law Library. Access to the titles housed in the Law Library via the University of Malaya Library Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is possible nationally and internationally.

The main services available to all the Law Library users are as follows:-
- Reference and Information
Reference and information services are provided by qualified professional librarians to the teaching staff and students of the Faculty of Law, academicians and researchers from other local and foreign universities, legal practitioners and members of the judiciary. The librarians having access to global information and electronic databases worldwide entertain all enquiries received via telephone, facsimile, mail, email or in person. Document Delivery Services are also provided for copies of articles, cases and other information available at the library for any member or non-member and such requesters are charged according to pre-determined rates.
- Malaysian Statutes
The Federal and State gazettes representing an important primary source of law are continuously updated with changes to such legislation’s being made by the Malaysian Parliament and the respective State Legislative Assemblies.
- Photocopying
Facilities for making copies of library materials are available but users are reminded of the relevant provisions of the Malaysian Copyright Act of 1987.
- Loans
The Law Library is essentially a reference library, and as such, almost all of its collection is for use within the Library premises only.
