Internal Membership

The University Library system is open to all students and staff of the University of Malaya. Membership is automatic once they are admitted as students or staff. However, registration in the Library is required. Becoming a member, however, DO NOT entitled you to obtain free access to fee-based services provided by the UM Library. External Membership

The Library has always been open to those members of the public who have no access to other similar collections but who are pursuing some private course of study or research.

CATEGORIES OF EXTERNAL MEMBERSHIP

• Graduates of the University of Malaya
• Professional persons
• External-degree students of overseas universities who are not full-time students at any of the local institutions
• Academic staff and postgraduate students of local universities
• Ordinary members of the public pursuing personal research interests
• Government departments, statutory bodies, libraries and other research institutions (interlibrary loan scheme only)
• Retired staff of the University
• Staff of government departments and statutory bodies

MEMBERSHIP RATES (External Membership only)

Annual Fees:

Alumni RM100
Non Alumni RM500

Deposit required for borrowing books:

RM600 for 2 books
RM1200 for 4 books
