Loan Regulations
Members wishing to borrow library materials must produce their matriculation/membership card at the Service Counter.
Borrowers are not permitted to borrow or renew on behalf of other members.
Renewals
Books except for Free Range Collection and Academic Reserve Colletion can be renewed three (3) times unless they have been reserved by other users. Renewals can be done by telephone, email or online (via the library website.
How to Renew Your Book Online
Please follow these steps for renewal:
Go into http://www.pendeta.um.edu.my.
Click on MY ACCOUNT.
Click on Renew My Materials.
Enter your Library Barcode Number or Student ID number and your
PIN [Your PIN number is the last 4 digits of the library barcode
or student ID number. If you have problems with the PIN, contact
your librarian]

Choose Renew All and click Renew Selected Items or choose Renew

The new due date will be automatically displayed against each
item renewed. (DD/MM/YYYY).
The item will be renewed provided there are no reservations
for the item; item is not due or has not been renewed more than 3 renewals.

Reservations
Books on loan may be reserved. Reservations are made at the Service Counter.
Book Searches
If an item cannot be located and is not in circulation, the staff at the reference desk will be able to assist. To obtain this service, a green search card will have to be filled. A book search would normally take 3 working days. Users will be notified when the item is found or a search is completed.
Fines
Borrowers are responsible for returning books before or on the due date. Fines will be imposed for items that are overdue.

Charges for Books Items Not Returned
Lost items or items not returned upon expiration of membership will be the responsibility of members. Members will be required to replace or pay twice the cost of replacing the books (based on current market value of lost items) or subject to a minimum charge of RM50/- per book for local publication and RM120/- per book for foreign publication or whichever is higher.
Interlibrary Loans (ILL)
ILL service is available from the Main Library and Branch Libraries to all local universities, government and semi-government libraries. No fee is imposed by the Library. However, the normal guarantee by the borrowing library for replacing items lost or not returned to UM Library is required.
This service is also available to private-sector libraries upon their acceptence as members and having paid the necessary fees. ILL service is also extended to the academic staff and postgraduate students of the University. Items not available in the library system can be requested from other libraries through the Client Services Division. Charges are borne by the requestor.
