1. External Membership
fees are charged annually (January – December) for the following

2. A registration processing fee of RM12.00 is charged ( waived
for UM Pensioners and Corporate Members)
3. External members who wish to borrow books are required to pay
a deposit depending on the borrowing privilege opted for ie.
RM600 ( 2 books); or
RM1200 ( 4 books)
RM3000 (10 books) for corporate members only
All payments are to be made in crossed cheque/bank draft/postal
order to “BENDAHARI UNIVERSITI MALAYA”.
Note: Deposits are refundable upon termination of membership and return off all library materials. Kindly
attach original receipt for deposit to claim deposit refund.
Membership
Application Pre-Requisites
External corporate membership is
open to private institutes /corporations including government linked
companies/corporatized government bodies except private institutions of higher learning. Employees of these corporations
intending to use the Library regularly are required to pay the corporate
membership fee through their respective institute/corporation/company.
When submitting applications, please ensure :
All applicants (excluding corporate membership) submit a passport
sized photograph (with blue background) to Pusat Teknologi Maklumat
(Computer Centre)
Alumni applicants are required to submit a copy of their UM
degrees
UM pensioners and government pensioners are required to bring
along their respective pension cards for verification.
Note: Non-alumni members must enclose support letters from employers.
Library Membership
Card
Every external member (except UM
pensioner and corporate member categories) will be issued a Library
Membership Card by the Pusat Teknologi Maklumat, University of Malaya.
Applicants can apply for membership cards during office hours and
cards can be collected after 3 days.
Library / Membership cards are not transferable.
All corporate members will be issued 3 Library cards under the
name of the institute /company for the use of their staff members.
Corporate members who opt to pay the loan/borrowing books deposit,
will be issued only one card marked with an asterisk ‘*’
for loan/borrowing purposes. Staff of the institute/corporate body
concerned will need to use this card for borrowing purposes.
Facilities
1. Reference facilities are provided
at the Main Library. Reference at the branch and special Libraries
within the UM Library Network, is allowed when the item is not available
at the Main Library.
2. External Library members who opt for borrowing facilities, are
allowed a 14 day loan period (except UM pensioners). UM pensioners
are allowed to borrow 4 books for a period of 30 days.
Fine will be charged for late returns. Books may be renewed online
via the online catalog Pendeta WebPAC if the following conditions
are met:
The book is not overdue (24 hours before the due date)
The book does not have a reservation placed on it by another
user
The book has not been renewed more than 3 times
3. Academic Reserve items may be borrowed on a 3 hour basis or overnight.
4. Use of the Microform collection.
5. Access to the online databases within library premise and the CD-ROM collection in the Electronic Database Room.
6. Interlibrary loan and document delivery facilities are available
and subject to conditions stated under the Document Supply System.
Responsibilities
1. It is the responsibility of
every Library member to:
Take care of items borrowed from the library
Observe the rules and regulations of the Library. The Library
has the right to terminate membership of users who are found to
contravene rules and regulations of the Library.
Inform the Library of any change of address and/or office.
2. Library members are subject to policy changes made by the library
from time to time, when necessary.

or cancel any membership application based on valid reasons.
